Judy Herrmann and Michael Starke founded their studio in January 1989. By 1994 they were named "Up and Coming Photographers" by Art Direction magazine. That same year, they began working digitally and by 1997 stopped shooting film entirely.

Their work has won acclaim from Lurzer's Archive, the Graphis Digital Photography Annual, PDN/Nikon Self Promotion Awards, How International Design Annuals, and Pix Digital Annuals. It has also been featured in Communication Arts, How, American Photo, Photo Electronic Imaging, Digital Imaging, Big Picture, Digital Capture, Digital Photo Pro, Studio Photography, Digital Photographer, Pro Digital Imaging and Digital Output magazines.

Since 2000, they have been members of the Olympus Visionaries program, an elite cadre of digital photographers that assist with product development and testing. Both are members of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP). Judy Herrmann currently serves as the President of this 5700 member international trade association for publication photographers.

As recognized experts in the field, they have written articles for Photo District News, Pix, Digital Photo Pro, How Magazine, VisionAge and other industry publications and websites. Their first seminar, at New York's annual Photo Plus conference in 1995, has led to a host of speaking engagements including annual seminars at Photo Plus and San Diego's PhotoImaging and Design Expo. They have also given programs for the Photo Pro Expo in Washington DC and the How Design Conference in San Francisco.

In the spring of 2003, the ASMP invited the pair to produce a full-day presentation on digital photography, which traveled to 22 of their 40 chapters between October 2003 and May 2005. The audiences at these seminars consisted of established and emerging professionals with an active interest in digital photography tools and accessories. In 2006, the pair presented 2 seminars on digital imaging at FotoFest, an international biennial fine art photography conference in Houston, as well as continuing programs on strategic planning for creative businesses, copyright and digital imaging for ASMP, Photo Plus and other photography conferences. They also developed an introduction to photography business practices program for the San Francisco Academy of Art, which they brought to several other educational institutions throughout the year.
